My professional passion is helping others to achieve their health goals and live their best life! I graduated with a B.S. in Medical Dietetics from the Ohio State University in 1992, and have had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings over the years including hospitals, long term care facilities, physician offices, diabetes clinics, community events and the media.
I joined the interdisciplinary team at Active Physical Therapy in 2012, and currently provide outpatient nutrition counseling to individuals with a variety of diagnoses and nutritional goals. These include weight management/obesity, anti-inflammatory eating, GI issues, general health and wellness, diabetes, hypertension, celiac disease and more recently, food sensitivities. I have a holistic mindset and try to look at a patient's entire lifestyle instead of focusing only on what they are eating.
Several years ago I developed an interest in adding functional and integrative approaches to my practice, which spurred my decision to become a Certified LEAP Therapist (CLT). A CLT has additional training in the testing and treatment of food sensitivities using the MRT (Mediator Release Test). The MRT measures your body’s level of immune reaction to 170 different foods and chemicals. Food sensitivity is often the root cause of many inflammatory conditions. Testing and subsequent diet and lifestyle change can bring relief to patients suffering from migraine, fibromyalgia, IBS and other inflammatory conditions. In addition to food sensitivity testing, I also offer Spectracell micronutrient testing, meal plan subscriptions and professional grade supplements.
On a personal note, my husband Matt and I have two young adult children. I spend my free time with my family and enjoy furthering my knowledge in the areas of functional and integrative nutrition.
